Carrasco: I’m not replacing Arda

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco has made it clear that he has not joined Atletico Madrid to replace Arda Turan.

The former Monaco winger completed a €15m transfer to Los Colchoneros last week, with speculation claiming his arrival was prompted by Turkey international’s departure to Barcelona, but he insists he wants to leave his own legacy behind.

“The first few days have gone well. I’ve started training with my colleagues and I feel good,” the Belgian said in perfect Spanish.

“I’m not here to replace Arda Turan. I’ll fight to become a starter at Atletico Madrid and work for it.

“I feel at my best on the left wing, but I love being at Atletico. They’re one of the biggest clubs in Europe and it’s a dream for me.

“Cholo [Diego Simeone] said he wanted me for my one-on-one ability in attack. I’ll learn from one of the best Coaches in the world. I wanted to work with him.

“There is plenty of competition, and I’ve come to learn and hopefully get many minutes.

“I hope to win trophies, finish in the top three, and if possible, win the League. I also hope to bring my game, do well, give my all and do the jersey proud.”
