Javier Manquillo will not return to Liverpool from Atletico Madrid for a second season on loan, it has been confirmed.
The young full-back headed to Anfield last summer on what was initially planned to be a two-year loan deal.
However, Manquillo struggled for regular first team football on Merseyside last term and Atleti have now announced the deal has been terminated.
“Javier Manquillo will not fulfil his second season on loan with Liverpool,” a statement on the Rojiblancos’ website reads.
“The player and Atletico Madrid decided that the full-back from Madrid would go to the Anfield club for two seasons to enjoy the necessary minutes to continue growing football-wise.
"However, in this first season with the Reds, the defender has not had all the minutes he and our club consider necessary for that purpose of accumulating experiences in his sports growth, so by mutual consent, it has been decided that he will not continue under the discipline of the English team."
