Monaco and Portugal starlet Bernardo Silva has admitted that he is “very happy” to be the subject of links with Barcelona.
Speculation has arisen that the midfielder, who starred at the recent European Under-21 Championship as the Seleccao reached the final, could join La Blaugrana after their presidential elections, and he made no secret of his desire to one day play for a “big club”.
“Comparisons [with Thiago Alcantara] are an honour for me. Thiago Alcantara is a player that I love,” the 20-year-old told Marca.
“He’s a great player who left Barcelona and is improving at one of the best teams in the world right now. There’s no doubt that I like being told these [comparisons].
“[Links to Barca] are just rumours, but it’s also a situation that makes me very happy about the work that I’ve done.
“Clearly, the objective in the career of any player is to one day play for a big club like [Barca], and hopefully I can do so.
“Sure [I think about La Liga], but right now I’m a Monaco player and I have a contract until 2019.
“Still, it’s clear that La Liga is one of the best competitions in the world and any player would want to play in it.
“It’s a competition with a lot of quality and technique in it, and I love it, but I have to respect Monaco.
“[Jackson Martinez’s] a spectacular player, who scored an awful lot of goals in Portugal.
“The aim of every player is to play with the best players. Jackson is one of the best and of course I’d love to play with him, but I don’t want to create a saga in my head because I have a contract with Monaco and, barring something [out of the blue], I must stay there.
“I don’t know [if I’m ready to see my name in the Press], I don’t think so.
“Now, I will go on holiday and see what happens, but I’m calm. If nothing happens, I’m fine at Monaco.
“Did [Jorge Mendes] say [I’m the second-best player to Ronaldo at Gestifute?] I didn’t know that.
“To know that my agent, who’s the best in the world, says that about me gives me great pride, and I appreciate all the work he does with me.”
