Athletic Bilbao have announced that Iker Muniain has extended his contract for a further two years until 2019.
The attacking midfielder is the latest youth product since the end of last season to agree a renewal at San Mames, following in the footsteps of Ander Iturraspe and Aymeric Laporte.
A statement on Athletic’s official website reads: “Athletic Bilbao and the player Iker Muniain have agreed a renewal that will see him remain in red and white [the club’s colours] until 30 June 2019. His buyout clause is €45m.”
Muniain scored one goal and laid off two assists in 41 appearances during 2014-15, but his campaign was ended in April by a knee ligament injury, which will keep him out until at least October.
