Madrid eye Leno as De Gea alternative?

Real Madrid will reportedly target Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno if an agreement for David de Gea cannot be reached.

According to Marca, Los Blancos hoped to make significant headway in their pursuit of the Manchester United No 1 over the past week, but no such progress has been forthcoming.

Consequently, the club have been left to sound out alternatives, and high on their reported shortlist is the Germany Under-21 international.

Madrid are understood to have followed Leno for some time and have contacted his representatives to remind them of their interest, although they are not expected to make a bid this summer.

The shot-stopper’s release clause currently stands at €18m, meaning any transfer would be far easier to undertake than a deal for De Gea.

Leno joined Leverkusen from Stuttgart in the summer of 2011 and has made almost 200 appearances for B04, despite being just 23.
