Madrid ‘very interested’ in Otamendi

Real Madrid are rivalling Manchester United for Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi, reports claim, and both clubs could this week make their offer.

Mundo Deportivo note Los Che have already said they won’t accept anything less than the €50m of the Argentine’s buyout clause but Madrid want to make the move a player-plus-cash deal and lower the price.

Madrid are said to hope they can use the influence of Jorge Mendes at Valencia to help their cause, the Portuguese agent representing a number of figures at Mestalla and Santiago Bernabeu.

If Otamendi did move to the capital it could see one of Rafa Benitez’s current centre-backs – Pepe, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane – move on.

Varane is wanted by Jose Mourinho and Chelsea and Ramos by United, Madrid’s rivals in the Otamendi pursuit.
