Man Utd plotting Madrid swoop?

Manchester United reportedly ask about the availability of four Real Madrid players – Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.

AS reports being told of the Premier League club’s interest in the quartet extending to a request for their contractual information.

Madrid have told United, however, that not one of the four is available and any transfer would have to see their release clause met.

Bale and Ronaldo have their clauses set at a prohibitive €1bn, AS say, while Benzema intends to stay at Santiago Bernabeu unless told by Rafa Benitez that he isn’t wanted.

Varane could be tempted, however, as he wants to play regular first team football, but is under contract until 2020.

United paid Madrid €70m for Angel Di Maria a year ago and are said to have some €200m to spend this summer, but are yet to find agreement on any Madrid player, AS conclude.
