Coentrao makeweight in De Gea deal?

Real Madrid plan to make Fabio Coentrao the makeweight in the deal to bring Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Portugal international left-back Coentrao was on the verge of joining the Premier League giants in summer 2013, only for the transfer to fall through at the last minute after Madrid had agreed terms with Granada’s Guilherme Siqueira, who subsequently went on loan to Benfica and is now at Atletico Madrid.

However, with reports in England suggesting that United have placed a €40m price tag on De Gea, Marca reports that the Spanish club would like to lower the cost by offering Coentrao, worth around €15m, as part of any agreement.

Coentrao, 27, has been with Madrid since July 2011 but has found playing time increasingly difficult to come by, having started just five La Liga games this season, and is understood to look favourably on a move to Old Trafford.
