Cakir to ref Barca in CL final

Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir has been selected to referee this season’s Champions League final in Berlin on June 6, UEFA have announced.

The 38-year-old Turk has taken charge of 70 games in European competition and has overseen four Champions League matches this season.

Cakir has officiated in a Barcelona match on three previous occasions: Rubin Kazan-Barca in 2010, Barca-Chelsea in 2012 and Benfica-Barca in the same season, awarding two penalties to the Catalans in those games and one to the opposition, while he also red-carded Sergio Busquets in Lisbon.

Englishman Martin Atkinson has been chosen as the man in the middle for the Europa League final between Sevilla and Dnipro in Warsaw on May 27.
