Rummenigge: ‘Bayern heads held high’

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes the Bavarians exited the Champions League with their “heads held high”.

The Bundesliga outfit beat Barcelona 3-2 in the semi-final clash at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday but crashed out of the tournament courtesy of a 3-0 defeat in last week’s first leg.

Nonetheless, former Bayern striker Rummenigge felt it was no disgrace to have been beaten by what he described as possibly the world’s best team.

“We’ve been eliminated by what right now is probably the best team in the world,” the 59-year-old told reporters.

“I thought we played very well this time, like we did in Barcelona for 70 minutes.

“Our opponents are now in the final but we exit the competition with our heads held high,” he declared.
