Ramos: Juve deserve CL final

Sergio Ramos congratulated Juventus on a “deserved” Champions League final following Real Madrid’s semi-final exit on Wednesday.

Alvaro Morata returned to haunt his former club at the Santiago Bernabeu in a 1-1 draw, which gave the Old Lady a 3-2 aggregate victory and their first European final since 2003, but the defender bore no grudges after the match and accepted his side were not good enough over both legs.

“The truth is that it’s tough to recover from a Champions League elimination,” he said.

“We’re a team fighting to win trophies and were favourites to defend our [European] title.

“Juventus deserved [to reach the final]. After the first goal, we thought it was all done. We must congratulate Juventus because they did better than us over both legs.

“We failed to score more goals than them at home and weren’t good enough front of goal.

“After their goal, we were a little down emotionally because we were having a good match until then but didn’t take advantage [of our chances].

“It’s not easy when you have to come back [from behind] and stay on the shore. This must be a lesson for us. If you make mistakes in the Champions League, you’re out.”
