Mascherano: ‘Barca will attack’

Javier Mascherano says Barcelona will attack Bayern Munich on Tuesday as they do not know any other way to play.

The Catalans hold a 3-0 lead from last week’s Champions League semi-final first leg at the Camp Nou, and Mascherano insists they are not going to the Allianz Arena to defend their advantage.

“I think we should forget we are 3-0 up and go out to try and win the game,” the Argentine told a Press conference.

“If we do anything different it would be wrong so we’ll try and do what we’ve done all season, which is to attack.

“We don’t know any other way of playing. That’s our philosophy and we’ll always try to score goals.”

Barca’s last visit to Munich in 2013 culminated in a 4-0 defeat as a prelude to a 7-0 aggregate semi-final loss to Bayern.

“We saw what Bayern are capable of two years ago and what they can achieve. I imagine they’ll be hungry right from the start.

“They’ll be trying to score so we must be prepared for anything. Nothing will surprise us and we’ll have to play as we always play, by going out to win.

“The fine details will be very important. If we just defend that will pile pressure on us. This is a Champions League semi-final and it would be a mistake to defend.

“We are hungry and competitive and want to win trophies. We are 90 minutes away from the final and will be doing everything to fulfil our dreams.

“However, we could also lose and at this stage any error could be fatal. We must take things step by step,” he concluded.
