Barcelona have been informed of the chance of signing Manchester United pair Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata but had no interest.
Sport claims agents on behalf of Rooney and Mata have been looking for opportunities away from Old Trafford and Barca was one port of call.
Barca’s transfer committee didn’t express interest, however, in Rooney’s case because of his age and long-term deal.
It was felt the cost of breaking the contract would be prohibitive, while there were concerns Rooney wouldn’t suit Barca’s style.
Sport says Rooney’s regular use as a midfielder means there is a view he doesn’t have the same qualities he once did, when he was an out-and-out striker.
In Mata’s case, Barca aren’t looking for a player in his position, even though he would like to return to Spanish football.
