Iniesta wary of Bayern

Andres Iniesta feels even if Barcelona win the first leg of next week’s Champions League semi-final with Bayern Munich they will still need to be wary.

Speaking to Sport Bild, the midfielder looked ahead to the tie with the Bundesliga giants and said his team cannot afford to lose concentration for a single moment against a team coached by former Barca boss Pep Guardiola.

“When you are up against Guardiola there isn’t an away result that can settle things. With him nothing is impossible,” maintained the Spain international.

“If we beat them in the first game we can’t allow ourselves to think we’ve won. Against any of his teams you can never assume any result is a good one. You only have to look at what they did to Porto in the quarter-finals.

“The way we perform will be decisive and we’ll need to be at our best in both games. If we are anything else our chances of getting to the final will be less.”

Iniesta revealed he is ‘good friends’ with Guardiola but says he has not spoken to him for some time.

“I’ve not called Pep since he went to Bayern. There’s no need to as he doesn’t need me and has great players in abundance, although I’m sure he might sometimes think about me.

“He contributed so much to Barcelona’s history and we’ll never forget what he did. Pep is 100 per cent committed to his job and he’s always available to his players, while our friendship has developed over the years.

“I don’t know if he’ll return to coach Barca one day. I do know we can achieve great things this season and everything else we’ll have to see about,” he concluded.
