Odegaard gets Madrid call-up

Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard could be in line to make his Real Madrid debut against Almeria on Wednesday.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti has added the talented youngster to his squad along with two other academy players in Mayoral and Diego Llorente.

The absence through injury of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, together with suspensions for Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal, has forced the Italian to dig into the reserve talent at his disposal for the game with the Andalusians.

“For this game we will have three academy players – Odegaard, Mayoral and Llorente – and two of these three will start on the bench and could get a chance to play,” Ancelotti told a Press conference.

If Odegaard does get the opportunity he will become the club’s youngest ever debutant at 16 years, four months and 12 days.

That privilege currently belongs to Alberto Rivera, who debuted for the first team at the age of 17 years and 11 days in 1995 against Celta Vigo.

Madrid won the race to sign Odegaard from Stromsgodset in the January transfer window for a reported €8m.
