Ancelotti recommended by Sir Alex Ferguson as Rangnick replacement

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti could be in the frame for the Manchester United job, according to Mundo Deportivo.

In the event that the Manchester club fail to secure the signature of Mauricio Pochettino, Ancelotti would be considered as a candidate, reported The Express. It appears current manager Ralf Rangnick will not continue in the hot seat past this season.

ESPN sources said that United legend Sir Alex Ferguson had personally recommended the Italian to the club, although Pochettino remains the preferred option. Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is also a leading candidate.

With Real Madrid suffering a damaging defeat in the Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain, Ancelotti has been chewing his trademark gum a little more vigorously of late. In spite of an excellent start to the season, his Real Madrid side have looked less convincing in recent matches.

Should PSG inflict another comfortable defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu, it could put Ancelotti’s position in danger come the summer. Domestically, it’s seen as essential that Real Madrid win La Liga, where Real Madrid currently enjoy a six point cushion to their nearest rivals Sevilla.

Ancelotti has a contract with Los Blancos until 2024, but speculation is growing that he may not complete that term.
