Herrera: ‘Chicharito should move’

Mexico boss Miguel Herrera believes Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez should go to a smaller club than Real Madrid in order to get more playing time.

Hernandez’s recent goalscoring form has led to renewed speculation with Los Blancos, where he is on a season-long loan from Manchester United, but having struggled to gain a regular place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting line-up for most of the campaign, Herrera feels it could benefit his countryman to take a step down.

“Perhaps he should think about going to a smaller but still important club, where he would be a regular starter and can show what a great striker he really is,” commented Herrera in an interview with Marca.

“I’m not surprised he played very little before because the competition at a club such as Madrid is enormous, but Javier is a striker who even without playing has progressed a lot.”

Hernandez, 26, has started just La Liga games for the European champions this season but has been in blistering form recently, scoring the winner in the Champions League quarter-final victory over Atletico Madrid and notching a brace against Celta Vigo last weekend.
