Madrid mull over Chicharito

Real Madrid are still considering whether to make Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez’s loan deal into a permanent arrangement.

The Manchester United striker is with Los Blancos until the end of the season but his magnificent form of late has forced the Madrid hierarchy into contemplating buying him in the summer.

The Mexican scored the winner in the Champions League quarter-final tie against neighbours Atletico Madrid last week and was again on target at the weekend with a brace in the 4-2 win at Celta Vigo.

It was widely expected Hernandez would depart the Santiago Bernabeu in June, when his agreement with the club expires, but his recent performances have had led executives to ask for more time so they do not need to make a decision by this Thursday, as set out in his contract.

Marca reports that the option to say goodbye to Hernandez still remains likely, although Madrid could be tempted to purchase the player provided the price is right and not the €20m they were originally quoted.

Manchester United directors are understood to be willing to extend the deadline after boss Louis van Gaal’s comments this week appeared to rule out any possible return.
