Garitano keen to repay Eibar fans

Gaizka Garitano admits he is ‘frustrated’ with his inability to repay the Eibar fans for their continued support ahead of Sunday’s encounter with Almeria.

The Basques failed to build on their against Malaga a fortnight ago as they lost their following two matches to leave them just three points afloat of the relegation places in La Liga with just six matches remaining.

“We have six finals ahead of us and we’ll face them as playoffs. We must attack Almeria and not feel any fear,” he said at a Press conference.

“The weeks are tough when you don’t win. Obviously, we’re suffering because we haven’t found the key.

“[Eibar’s slump] is my responsibility, but we’ve had a quiet week. I’m full of energy and I hope it rubs off on the players.

“Almeria are on their third Coach of the season and are both very physical and quick as a team.

“They’ll punish you If you give them space, so we can’t leave any gaps and must do as much as we can going forward.

“I’m always optimistic but football is like life. You fall, get back up and have to take risks.

“However, we mustn’t take too many risks. We’ll continue being cautious, but this isn’t about sacrificing our attackers.

“You have to fight to achieve something. Our dreams can’t be any different to when we played for promotion against Alcoyano and Mallorca [last season].

“The point tallies and placings are futile, I don’t look at them and didn’t set myself any targets. There are concerns [in the squad] but also dreams.

“We’re two teams who are down the bottom of the table. They have a good chance [of staying up] and so do we.

“We have to make sacrifices on Sunday and be at our best. I’m grateful for the fans’ support and frustrated that I’ve failed to return them the favour.

“It’s normal that Eibar play in La Liga, but the support has been extraordinary.”
