Ramos praises Ancelotti courage

Sergio Ramos has praised Carlo Ancelotti’s courageous decision to deploy him in midfield against Atletico Madrid.

The central defender took on the emergency role in the 1-0 Champions League win over Atleti

“I knew about it beforehand. We’d thought about it before but all the credit must go to Ancelotti,” the Spain international told reporters post-match.

“I like coaches who are decent people, but above all those that have character and have courage, so I’m delighted he trusted me.

“But overall I think we did a good job and deserved to go through. We played well, with a lot of effort, and we’ll try to defend our title of champions.”

Ramos said he was delighted for Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez after the Mexican scored the only goal of the game, whilst also having special words for the fans.

“I’m happy for Chicharito because he’s a teammate as well as a friend. He’s not played a lot this season but he’s been an example, a complete professional, and he’s helped the team a lot.

“As for the fans, they are part of our badge. Their affection and support is fundamental.

“We’ve had some magical nights in the Champions League and this has been one of them,” he maintained.
