Pep still upbeat for Porto clash

Pep Guardiola says he is still upbeat for the Champions League quarter-final second leg game against Porto next week.

Former Barcelona boss Guardiola lamented the fact his Bayern Munich team got off to a terrible start in the 3-1 loss at the Estadio do Dragao, but remains confident the tie is still not over ahead of next week’s clash in Germany.

“This was a typical UEFA Champions League game. After ten minutes we were already 2-0 down which was obviously not good,” he told UEFA.com.

“We are down but now have six days to prepare for the next match. We’ll keep training and will try to play better in the second leg. Of course, Thiago’s goal is important but it’s not decisive.

“We were not surprised by Porto's start to the game. I knew we were going to face a very good team and knew they had a good attack.

“The quality of this match was at the highest level and we are lucky to be in this phase of the competition. Jackson Martinez is a top player while Casemiro and [Hector] Herrera also played very well.

“In the Champions League you have to be almost perfect to win a match. It did not go well but we have six days to prepare,” he reiterated.
