Eduardo Berizzo warned Celta Vigo’s performance in Saturday’s 6-1 demolition of Rayo Vallecano was only “very close” to their best.
Despite Manucho’s goal inside the first minute, the Galicians raced to an emphatic victory at Balaidos, with Santi Mina netting four of his side’s six on the night to move them ahead of their League rivals in the table.
“We were very close to our best,” the Argentine mused.
“Our performance reflected that of a proud team, who believed in their style of play and never gave up.
“It was very difficult to imagine a result like this beforehand because Rayo are a very tough team to face and punish even the slightest of distractions.
“Our performance [for the remaining 89 minutes] was phenomenal. We applied great pressure all over the pitch.
“[Santi Mina] was absolutely clinical. He’s lethal when he goes forward.”
