Ancelotti hints at Madrid rotation

Carlo Ancelotti has finally conceded that he may be forced to consider rotating his squad in the wake of Real Madrid’s 2-0 win at Rayo Vallecano.

The Italian has long been an advocate of maintaining the status quo in his team selections, but with the business end of the season fast approaching and some players recently returning from long injury lay-offs, he admitted he could shake things up.

“I told the referee after the game that I couldn’t believe he didn’t call for a penalty on Cristiano [Ronaldo],” he told reporters.

“James [Rodriguez] played because I thought he could contribute a lot to the team. In another match, I may name a different team.

“I’m happy with how we fought and I couldn’t have asked for more. In the first half, we didn’t impose ourselves well enough, but in the second half we deserved to win.

“[Luka] Modric doesn’t have a knock. It was just that some players were a little tired after the game.”
