Varane considering Madrid exit?

Raphael Varane is reportedly considering his future at Real Madrid after growing unhappy with his recent lack of game time.

The Frenchman is seen as Los Blancos’ third-choice centre-back behind Sergio Ramos and Pepe, the latter of whom is 32 and seemingly on the verge of renewing his contract for another two years.

Consequently, both Le10Sport and the Daily Express claim he is thinking about leaving the Spanish capital as he realises he may only be able to play regular first-team football elsewhere.

Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Varane, the former of which were reportedly willing to offer €40m for his services in January.

The 21-year-old was also brought to the Santiago Bernabeu, where he has made over 100 appearances, by current Blues boss Jose Mourinho in 2011.

“I’ve played more in the second half of the season, when the team had more problems,” he was quoted as saying by AS earlier in the season.

“But it’s during the hard times when you learn more about yourself because being a Madrid player is a challenge every day.

“That’s happened to me and I need to raise my objectives in order to become a better player.”
