Atleti step up Firmino push

Atletico Madrid are stepping up their attempts to sign Hoffenheim attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino, according to AS.

The Brazilian has been a revelation in the Bundesliga this season and scored the winning the goal in his country’s 1-0 win over Chile at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.

German magazine Kicker claims Atleti have been monitoring the player’s situation this year and boss Diego Simeone is set to make a move for the 23-year-old this summer.

It is understood the Madrid club have already taken the first steps to sign the player and Firmino is believed to be open to a move to La Liga.

However, Los Colchoneros could face stiff competition from Manchester United, whose boss Louis Van Gaal is also interested in a player who has plundered 38 goals in his 133 appearances for Hoffenheim.
