Isco: Madrid a bit dejected

Isco says Real Madrid “are a bit dejected” but remain confident they can turn their season around after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.

Los Blancos threw away their title advantage at San Mames, courtesy of Aritz Aduriz’s 26th-minute winner for the Basques, and the midfielder conceded Carlo Ancelotti was right to pick holes in the side’s attacking display.

“Things aren’t coming off at the moment but things can change quickly,” he said after the game.

“The team are a bit dejected, but all teams have up and downs and we must remain confident.

“I ask our fans to keep the faith. [Winning La Liga] is difficult now, but it was already difficult when we were four points ahead. The season is very long and there are still many games left.

The fans have to trust us because we’re the same players [who won the Champions League and Club World Cup], but with more miles in the gallon.

“The team are physically well. We have to use to the full every game the moment we are leaders.

“The Coach is right, we need to freshen things up in attack and make the final pass earlier. It’s cost us in recent games, but we want to go back [to how we were].

“[The Clasico] will be a decisive game, but the League won’t be decided until the final day of the season. There are still many more games to go, and they’re all important.

“The Coach had some [choice] words for us, but they’ll stay in the dressing room.”
