Sergio Gonzalez has insisted that Espanyol are solely focused on their ‘six-pointer’ with Cordoba in La Liga on Friday.
Despite sitting in ninth place, the Catalans lie just seven points away from the relegation zone and must juggle their League commitments with those in the Copa del Rey, but the Coach is only interested in his side putting daylight between themselves and the basement boys for now.
“The cup match doesn’t exist, only Cordoba, Cordoba and Cordoba, against whom there are six points at stake,” he told reporters.
“It’s a tricky game for us because our opponents will come [to Cornella-El Prat] with a knife between their teeth and no-one wants to lose.
“I’ve never saved anyone [for the Copa del Rey], as seen in the previous rounds. It’s a tough game and I hope many fans will attend. We need them.”
