Ancelotti: Motivation not an issue

Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Real Madrid’s recent problems are not down to a lack of motivation.

Poor results against arch-rivals Atletico Madrid, a perceived loss of form from key players and supporter unrest have threatened to derail Los Blancos’ season.

However, the Coach is adamant his side will demonstrate their hunger to win against during Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Schalke.

“We have to enjoy this game and moment. We must start playing well again, with intensity and motivation,” he said at a Press conference.

“I’m confident because I think we had a good match against Deportivo, [who posed us] difficulty, and I think it’ll be better [on Wednesday].

“La Liga gives us huge motivation because we’re top of the table. There’s no greater motivation to win the League.

“In this competition it’s the same. We’re champions of Europe and we’ll do everything possible to become European champions again.

“[The Champions League] is great motivation. Last year we dreamed of winning the Champions League.

“The story says that it’s very difficult to repeat, but not impossible. We have to try.

“When you have injures or a result like the one against Atletico [Madrid] and you don’t respond quickly, it can affect you

“We need to improve and get good results against Schalke and Elche.”
