Ancelotti fires Ronaldo warning

Carlo Ancelotti has warned Real Madrid’s rivals that “Cristiano Ronaldo is back” after his display against Schalke in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Portuguese scored and gave an assist at Veltins-Arena as Los Blancos took a 2-0 lead in their last-16 tie with the Royal Blues, but the Coach, although delighted with the forward’s return to form, also singled out Marcelo, Pepe and debutant Lucas Silva for praise.

“Cristiano [Ronaldo] is back. He was born to score goals, but the team don’t suffer when Cristiano doesn’t score in one or two games,” he said after the game.

“Sooner or later, he’ll score. He had an important game, scored and gave an assist.

“He’s progressing like the rest of the team. Their reaction so far has been good.

“[My celebration for Marcelo’s goal] was nothing special, but I was very surprised [with his goal] because I don’t have a habit of seeing Marcelo score with his right foot.

“I was completely surprised by his goal, and that’s why I entered the pitch [to celebrate with him].

“Pepe’s a player who has both the experience and personality needed in these type of games.

“He has the ability to command the defence, and his presence in the game was very important.

“[Lucas Silva] was composed. His physical condition had improved. He showed calmness and personality on the pitch.

“He played very simply, but with good ideas. In this sense, he surprised me. It’s not easy making your Real Madrid debut in a Champions League match at 22 years of age.
