Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper Tono says he is confident his side can take something from the visit to Atletico Madrid this weekend.

Atleti have played 16 official matches at the Vicente Calderon this season, drawing two against Celta Vigo and L’Hospitalet with just one defeat at the hands of Villarreal.

However, the experienced 35-year-old believes there is no reason why Rayo cannot gain at least a point against their cross-city rivals.

“The Calderon is a beautiful stadium and we’ll be up against a team that at the moment are among the best,” he told Rayo’s official website.

“But we’ll be doing what we can and this is a week where we’ll need to put in the work. We have the mentality to suffer and can get something there.”

Tono revealed he was happy to have reached the halfway stage of the season with 23 points and the team sitting in 10th place in La Liga.

“We are pleased but we mustn’t be complacent because we have to aspire to more, to believe more, so the fans are happy.

“To have finished the first round of games with this number of points is more than deserved,” he added.
