Betis can reach Europe says Tono

Granada goalkeeper Tono believes Friday night’s opponents Real Betis are capable of mounting a top-six challenge this season.

Los Beticos are currently fourth in La Liga and the former Racing Santander stopper, who joined El Grana last summer, is under no illusions about the size of the task facing Juan Antonio Anquela’s men at the Benito Villamarin.

“We have not started the season well and have conceded too many goals because we have not been consistent for the whole 90 minutes in any game. We must all pull in the same direction,” the 32-year-old told El Desmarque.

“If we want to get something positive at Betis then we’ll need to give 100 per cent. “They are a great team and I’m sure if they can maintain their consistency then I’m sure they can get into the Europa League or Champions League places, although it will be difficult because there are some great teams.

“However, the reality is that they are doing it and that means they are capable of achieving their aims.”

Tono was asked if he thought Granada midfielder Iriney would receive a good reception on his return to Betis following his transfer before the start of the season.

“I remember when I played against Betis at the Villamarin that Iriney was well-liked by the supporters.

“He speaks very highly of his stay in Sevilla and I’m sure he’ll be well received,” he concluded.
