Ancelotti: ‘‘La Decima’ not my best’

Carlo Ancelotti says winning ‘La Decima’ with Real Madrid was not his finest moment as a football Coach.

The Italian led Los Blancos to a 10th European Cup success after defeating cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid in Lisbon last May, yet revealed it was not his greatest achievement since calling time on his playing career in 1992.

“I’ve been fortunate in my time in football, both as a player and a Coach. I got to play for [Arrigo] Sacchi’s Milan and I’ve also been really blessed in my time on the bench too,” said the Italian during his induction into Italy’s Football Hall of Fame.

“However, if I was asked to single out one trophy it would have to be the Champions League triumph I led Milan to against Juve in Manchester [in 2003], because it was my first as a Coach.”

Ancelotti also looked back on the countries and Leagues he has coached in, while giving his opinion on the differences between them.

“Every League is different and therefore so are your experiences. In England the game is played at a very high tempo and the people there show you a lot of respect.

“The French League is also very fast-paced and aggressive, whereas Spain is prominent for its love of good football, and in Italy the defensive organisation and tactical awareness stand out. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences.”

Finally, the former Milan, Juventus, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss spoke of his feelings at being overlooked for the FIFA Best Coach of the Year award for 2014.

“Joachim Low deserved to win it but I’m really happy to have been there and to see Cristiano Ronaldo win the Ballon d'Or,” he maintained.
