Djukic “very pleased” at Cordoba win

Miroslav Djukic declared himself “very pleased” following Cordoba’s 1-0 victory at Rayo Vallecano on Monday night.

The Andalusians had Abdoulaye Ba’s 39th-minute own goal to thank for securing all three points at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, a win that sees them climb out of the relegation zone and up into 16th place.

“I’m very pleased, especially for the players as they did a great job,” insisted the Serbian at a post-match Press conference.

“This is reward for the work, effort and defensive strength we showed and the match went as we would have liked right from the start.

“The trick was to defend well and be quick on the counter-attack, because in every other aspect we are improving.

“We are a strong team that makes sacrifices and we know this is the way forward. At the moment things are good and we must keep adding to that, but for me the most important thing is that we got three points at a ground that is very difficult to come to.

“We did well in the first half, when we pressed, although after that they overwhelmed us. But we knew how to suffer and that was vital,” he concluded.

Cordoba have now won three of their last five La Liga fixtures, having failed to register a single victory in the opening 13 games.
