Marcelino coy on Cani & Perez

Marcelino has refused to confirm nor deny the speculation surrounding the futures of Villarreal midfielders Cani and Hernan Perez.

Reports last week suggested that both the 33-year-old and Paraguayan winger were free to leave the Yellow Submarine in January, but the Coach chose to pass up questioning ahead of Saturday’s trip to Elche in La Liga.

“Cani is a squad player with a contract and an ankle injury. Soon, you’ll see what the best outcome is for all parties,” he told reporters at a Press conference.

“[I won’t make any other assessment on the player] because I’m only focused on the game that my team will play against Elche.

“[On returning injury victim Hernan Perez], you’ll see the final squad from January 31 onwards.”

However, the former Sevilla boss was more forthcoming about Mateo Musacchio’s return from a three-month injury layoff.

“We think [Mateo Musacchio] is close to returning,” he added.

“We’ll be guided by his sensations, but we don’t want to force through [his recovery] if he’s completely forgotten the injury.”
