Sevilla are leading the chase for the signature of Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Andalusians are weighing up a bid for the former Valencia and Chelsea player in the January transfer window, and are ready to test United’s resolve to keep the 26-year-old at Old Trafford.
Mata has had difficulty in forcing his way into Louis van Gaal’s side since the Dutchman arrived in the summer but has recently managed to cement a place in his starting line-up.
However, the Reds’ boss is keen to land Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman, although he may have to wait until the end of the season, which could pave the way for Mata to make a return to La Liga.
Mata scored United’s winner in the 2-1 victory over Stoke City in midweek, having also started against Hull City last weekend, but had spent the previous three games on the bench.
