Van Gaal to turn to Godin?

Manchester United are being linked with a January swoop for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin.

Reds’ boss Louis van Gaal is eager to shore up his defence in the forthcoming transfer window and, according to the Daily Mail, has added the Uruguay international to a list of potential targets.

Godin, who played a key role in Atleti’s La Liga title success and run to the final of the Champions League last season, is understood to have a €35m release clause in his contract, which the Premier League giants would be willing to pay.

The 28-year-old centre-back has four years left on his existing agreement at the Vicente Calderon and the capital club would be powerless to stop him leaving if United agree to pay the required amount.
