Pique: Ronaldo a “perfect machine”

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has described Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo as a “perfect machine”.

The pair know each other from their time together as youngsters at Manchester United and are on good terms despite playing for La Liga’s two biggest rivals.

“Cristiano is a perfect machine, a hard worker who always wants to improve,” Pique told Voetbal magazine.

“He demands a lot from himself, something that he showed at United, but the most surprising thing is that Lionel Messi won four Ballon d’Ors in a row and he still kept on going and had the strength to beat him.

“People always draw conclusions about him based on specific things he does without actually getting to know him.

“He’s changed in recent years. I know him from United and we got on well. He helped me a lot in Manchester,” remarked Pique.

Ronaldo is the favourite to land the Ballon d’Or in January and has enjoyed an extraordinary season so far, netting 26 goals in just 20 appearances.
