Mata: Moyes had no luck at United

Juan Mata believes new Real Sociedad boss David Moyes had no luck during his time in charge at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United midfielder was signed from Chelsea by Moyes in January this year for a reported €44.7m, only to see the Scot dismissed four games from the end of the season with the Reds languishing in seventh place.

Nonetheless, Spain international Mata feels Moyes did not get the breaks he deserved after 11 years with Everton, as he told Cadena Cope.

“He is a Coach who had no luck here at Old Trafford. He didn’t get the results we wanted and left sooner than I expected,” maintained the 26-year-old, who admitted he will always be grateful to Moyes for bringing him to United.

“Obviously, replacing Sir Alex Ferguson was never going to be easy, not for him or anyone, but although I was with him for only a few months I’ll always be grateful as he played a key role in my move to United.

“He was the one who called me, who welcomed me, and the one who gave me the confidence to come here.”

Mata is convinced that Moyes has what it takes to be a success at Real Sociedad.

“I wish him all the best. My experience with him was very good and he did well at Everton. He works hard and prepares really well for games

“I have some great friends at La Real, such as Esteban Granero, and I also want the best for him. I hope he does well as Real Sociedad is a club with loads of history and a fantastic stadium.

“They also have a great team, with some especially good strikers, so I think he can settle in and be a success.

“San Sebastian is a place where you can live really well,” he added.
