James Rodriguez says that Real Madrid need to keep going in this direction after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League.
“It’s always important to win, even if it was 1-0 and not 2-0 or 3-0,” James Rodriguez told the media in the mixed zone of Santiago Bernabeu.
“I think that we have been on a roll in our last seven or eight games, and we have scored goals.
“We just have to keep going in this direction, but we are also aware that there’s still a lot to go to the end of the season.”
As Gareth Bale replaced him after 62 minutes and made his comeback after a month on the sidelines, James was asked whether this will unsettle either him or the team’s shape going forward.
“Nobody gets angry [for being replaced]. Bale is a great player and if he’s got to play always, he’s going to do it. We’ll have to be on our feet, ready and open to every situation.
“I don’t think there’s any problem there with the system. The Coach knows how we are playing – then if it’s 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 it’s up to him.
“We have just got to be open to what he wants. Me, I feel good around the area, but I’m always careful to listen to what Ancelotti wants from me.”
James also reflected on Cristiano Ronaldo’s missed chances against Liverpool.
“I don’t think Cristiano was angry for not scoring tonight. He’s still got several games ahead of him and I’m sure that he’ll beat that record soon,” he said.
And finally, the Colombian ace was asked to rate his goal against Granada at the weekend.
“Yes, last weekend I scored one of my best goals ever, but I’ve scored a nice one also against Uruguay,” he recalled.
“For sure, the one I’ve scored in Granada makes the top three.”
