Henderson: Madrid game a turning point

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson believes the Champions League Group B clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday could be a turning point.

The England international has seen his side struggle with some indifferent form so far this term, yet he feels the Santiago Bernabeu is the ideal place to put in a good performance and win back the doubters.

“We’ve got people criticising us and we know we are not at our best, but this is a great opportunity to show that we are a top side,” he told reporters.

“We just need to be more ruthless in the final third and a bit more creative. We are working hard to create chances.

“We feel we are coming to a brilliant stadium and want to put on a performance. It will be a challenge because we know they are a very good team, but we have the confidence and quality to win.

“It will be a great game and hopefully we will get a good result.”

Henderson also insisted that Steven Gerrard will still be a Liverpool star for the next few years in light of his recent comments that he did not know if he would still be at the club next season.

“He is a massive player for us. He is our captain, our leader, a role model. Hopefully he will continue to be a big player with us for many years to come”
