Simeone: Forget about last year

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believes his players must forget about last season if they are to take the club forward.

Simeone’s men surpassed all expectations last year when they won La Liga and reached the final of the Champions League, but the Argentine told AS that all that is in the past.

“It’s best to forget about it and focus on the reality of the situation, which is Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Sevilla,” maintained Simeone.

“After that then what will happen will happen, so we need to keep winning to find ourselves competing at the top of the table.

“We can’t let Sevilla and Valencia get away from us because we want to be up there until February or March.”

Simeone also told of his arrival at the club in December 2011 and how things have developed since then.

“The club had the chance to improve when I first got here, although we were all behind the same idea and became even stronger. It’s rare you can build something like this during your lifetime.

“But today I know that we are a nuisance to other teams and not easy to play against, yet the demands are going to be even greater,” he claimed.
