Liverpool set to bid for Casilla

Liverpool are set to make a bid for Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla in January, according to the Daily Express.

Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to want the 28-year-old to provide competition for Simon Mignolet, who so far this season has failed to reproduce the form he showed last term.

Reports in Spain suggest contact with Casilla’s agent has already been made, although the player is understood to have several other offers on the table.

However, Liverpool are believed to be in pole position after appearing to have missed out on former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes, who now looks poised to link up with Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

Despite Espanyol being keen to hang on to Casilla, their recent cash problems would see them willing to do business if they receive an offer deemed too good to refuse.
