Zubi laments Barca errors

Andoni Zubizarreta admitted Barcelona made mistakes as they lost El Clasico against Real Madrid despite taking the lead.

Neymar put Barca in front but goals from Cristiano Ronaldo – a penalty – as well as Pepe and Karim Benzema ended the Catalans’ unbeaten start to the season.

“We played very well in the first half,” Zubi said after the final whistle, AS reports.

“When it went to 3-1 they did a lot of damage. We didn’t have clarity.

“Lionel Messi could have made it 2-0 but didn’t. We were in good control but then everything changed. We could have won. But that’s football. Mistakes are made.”

It was put to Zubizarreta that Barca lacked something physically but he dismissed the suggestion, and refused to weigh in on whether or not the penalty was rightly given.

“If this interview was done at half-time then you would say Xavi Hernandez and others had the physical level for the game,” he argued.

“That wasn’t the problem.

“I know what Gerard Pique thinks about the penalty. You should ask the referee.

“I think we had chances to win but we have to congratulate Madrid. Now we think of Celta Vigo.”
