Cerci happy to be involved at Atleti

Alessio Cerci says he was happy to be involved in Atletico Madrid’s 5-0 thrashing of Malmo

The Italian midfielder, signed from Torino in the summer and scorer of Atleti’s fifth goal, has found it difficult to break into Diego Simeone’s starting line-up this season after being out injured.

Nevertheless, he believes he still has the full confidence of the Argentine Coach.

“Even if I only played a few minutes it has been good for me and an important test,” Cerci told reporters following the Champions League group game.

“It was good for me to get on the pitch. I’m happy with the goal I scored and physically I feel fine.

“Since early September I’ve been working to recover lost time and now I feel good because the leg has responded.

“The Coach was the one who brought me to Madrid and he believes in me, so I hope to return that confidence on the pitch.”

Atletico scored their first goal through Koke on 48 minutes but Cerci said he is not worried they had initially struggled to break the Swedish side down.

“It depends on who the opposition are. We believe that this team will always create chances, and sometimes it is luck that makes the difference.

“Even so, we scored five goals so we must have done well,” he concluded.
