‘Madrid kept the intensity’

Alvaro Arbeloa pointed to the intensity of Real Madrid’s performance against Malmo and discussed the Copa del Rey expulsion.

Los Blancos put eight goals past the Swedes, Cristiano Ronaldo getting four and Karim Benzema three, Madrid ending Group A in style.

“It was easy because the team got it right. The team didn’t lower in intensity, which is what was missing against Getafe,” the defender said, AS reports.

“I’m sure the supporters enjoyed it and the team is growing. With results like this the team will go further and the fans are going to end up applauding everyone. After all, the team and the fans are one. There’s enough people on the outside sticking it to us.”

Denis Cheryshev got a run-out after his Copa del Rey appearance while suspended led to Madrid’s elimination, Arbeloa commenting on the situation when it was put to him that the Cup is the only competition Madrid aren’t doing well in.

“We are doing well in the Cup because we got a great result in Cadiz,” he insisted.

“Hopefully justice will be done and Madrid will stay in the Copa del Rey. It’s been unfair on Cheryshev. The rest of the world is measured in one way and Real Madrid another.

“We know what the fans require of us. When we least deserve it, they’ll give us their support.”
