Manquillo & Moreno on Liverpool life

Javi Manquillo and Alberto Moreno have spoken of what it is like to play for Liverpool in advance of the Champions League tie with Real Madrid.

The Reds host Los Blancos at Anfield on Wednesday and the Spanish full-backs have been interviewed by AS.

Both Manquillo, who is on loan from Atletico Madrid, and Moreno, who made a permanent move from Sevilla, have expressed their happiness at life on Merseyside.

“I was very happy when Liverpool’s interest emerged,” Manquillo said.

“From the first day you notice the greatness of the club. Listen to how the fans support the team in good times and bad. Playing at Anfield is special.”

“I am delighted. From the beginning the people have supported me and my family,” Moreno added.

“I knew that Liverpool was a big club but being inside it you realise the true dimension.

“I’ve always liked the Premier League. When I was in Spain I watched the highlights because the football was very attractive. The matches are spectacular.”

Manquillo added that working under Brendan Rodgers, who has also spoken to AS on a number of topics, from Madrid to Pep Guardiola and Luis Suarez, is a boon.

“For any young player it’s important to have the trust of the Coach,” he noted.

“Rodgers has done from the beginning and I am grateful for that. Being at a big club like Liverpool and getting a place in the team is difficult.”

They are both looking forward to going against Madrid, with Moreno banking on the support of the fans to make the night a special occasion and Manquillo looking at the fixture through Atletico eyes.

“We have started with some doubts but we’re a young team and we will grow,” Moreno said.

“The match against Madrid will be very hard but we will fight and we can win at Anfield.

“Our fans are impressive. Listening to You’ll Never Walk Alone before games is something that inspires you.

“Anfield is a magical place, it’s true. Any team who play there know it’s not going to go well for them.”

“I am a Colchonero and playing against Madrid is always different,” Manquillo continued.

“You have to approach the game with more force, enhance your strengths and look for the three points.

“It’s clear Madrid are a team with big stars. It will be an interesting match, especially up against Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I’ll try to stay focused and play a good game.”
