Kroos rejects Xabi Alonso comparison

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos says he dislikes being compared to Xabi Alonso, who left the Bernabeu for Bayern Munich this summer.

Kroos, 24, moved in the opposite direction for a fee reported at the time to be between €25m and €30m, and also said he believed the two clubs would not have agreed to exchange the pair.

“I don’t like comparisons, although when you consider the position we both play in then we’re not such different players,” he admitted at a Press conference, while stressing that he is really happy with his new life in the Spanish capital and in particular the football played in La Liga.

“I’ve settled in very well in a short space of time and I feel very integrated, both within the squad and outside it.

“On the pitch, teams here show more commitment than in the Bundesliga. I think that, by and large, there are better players here than in Germany, although teams there pose more difficulties.

“Even so, you can’t win games in the Spanish League by giving only 70 or 80 per cent and you’ve always got to step on the gas.”

The German international also confessed he has not yet found time to learn Spanish.

“I’ve had a game almost every four days from when I arrived, so I haven’t had much time, but I’m trying to learn it bit by bit.

“That will help in my relationship with the other players, although at the moment I’m doing alright with English,” he maintained.
