Butragueno: James is improving

Emilio Butragueno believes James Rodriguez has improved as a player since joining Real Madrid this summer.

According to former Madrid striker Butragueno, who is now director of institutional relations at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Colombian is getting better and now feels more integrated since his move from Monaco for a reported €80m.

“We are very excited about James and he has worked hard to incorporate himself into the team.

“He has great talent and we believe he’ll become a player who helps us a lot,” Butragueno told EFE in an interview in Bogota.

“I think being with Real Madrid is the best thing that could have happened to him. Every game is a different challenge and it’s a chance to play with some great players, some wonderful professionals.

“In the World Cup in Brazil he showed the great personality and character needed to succeed in this new phase in his career.”

Butragueno, a Madrid player for 13 years between 1982 and 1995, described what it was like to represent the club.

“For me Real Madrid is a way of life and a feeling for the 400 million fans who identify with it, with the set of values with which we strive to be the best,” he explained.
