Contra rues dropped points

Getafe Coach Cosmin Contra was not pleased with the 1-1 draw with Cordoba after what he felt was the team’s best 45 minutes of the season.

The hosts fell behind in the 78th minute through a Patrick Ekeng goal, with Baba Diawara’s late strike rescuing a point for El Geta.

“I think Getafe did more to deserve three points than they did to leave with one,” Contra said, Marca reports.

“Football is about scoring goals and after a sluggish first half we had the best 45 minutes of the season in the second.

“We had a goal ruled out that was legal and then we hit the post. We had more chances than they did.

“The Getafe I want is in the second half. We managed to react and that’s a positive. I hope to return [after the international break] with the image of the second half.

“The team reacted very well and I liked the attitude of the players.”

Contra also declined to comment much about the officials despite seeing Angel Lafita’s goal ruled out.

“It’s fashionable to complain about referees but I won’t. The goal was legal but we can’t do anything,” he accepted.

“Those who wish to complain about referees can keep complaining. We’re here to work.”
