Sevilla chief backs Emery

Sevilla President Jose Castro has sprung to the defence of boss Unai Emery following the 4-0 weekend defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Los Rojiblancos face Croatian outfit Rijeka in the second game of the Europa League group stages on Thursday, with fans still critical of the system Emery employed at the Vicente Calderon, where they thought he took a negative approach into the game.

Nonetheless, Castro says he is fully behind the former Valencia and Almeria boss and wants to draw a line under the episode.

“Unai is a professional. Sometimes you get it wrong and sometimes you get it right,” he told reporters at the city’s San Pablo airport, before heading off to Croatia alongside the boss and the team.

“I cannot be President one moment and a fan the other if you want me to give my opinion, so I prefer to turn the page.

“I trust in the Coach and up until now we’ve had more good times than bad ones. I was the first one to believe in him and the first one to extend his contract, so he has my full backing.

“He does what he thinks is right and what he believes in, although sometimes things don’t go too well,” he concluded.
